School Statement

East Torrens Primary School is located in the eastern area of Adelaide. The school was established on the former Newton Primary site in 2001, following the amalgamation of Hectorville and Newton primary schools.

The school has approximately 300 students and 50 children at a preschool, which is located within the Campbelltown Community Children's Centre. East Torrens hosts two special education classes that provide specialised teaching and learning for 20 students with disabilities.

A 'New Arrivals Program' was established in 2006 to teach an intensive English curriculum. East Torrens celebrates the cultural and linguistic diversity within the school community with over 40 cultures represented.

We have made a commitment to having smaller classes. Students in Reception to Year 2 have a maximum of 21 students per class, while Year 3 to 7 classes have a maximum of 25 students.

Special programs include Italian as a second language, PE and specialised singing. Programs also focus on high achievement in English, Mathematics and ICT. Student well-being is a school focus and 'Kids Matter' (a national primary schools mental health initiative) has been implemented.
