INTENSIVE ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROGRAM

East Torrens Primary School is one of the few South Australian Primary Schools offering the Intensive English Language Program through our Intensive English Language Centre (IELC).

IELP Centres provide Intensive English language support for students who:

  • were born overseas in a non-english speaking country, and have been in Australia for no more than 12 months (18 months for Junior Primary age students)
  • are a refugee, migrant or approved temporary resident

Our role is to prepare students for a successful transition into mainstream schooling and assist them in building the confidence needed to live in Australia. Generally students participate in the program for 12 months.

At East Torrens Primary School we value our diverse school community and support cross cultural and intercultural knowledge and understanding across the school and wider community. Many of our IELC students continue their schooling in mainstream with us at ETPS.
